Its like mom always used to say....

“Think before you speak!” This was probably the best advice that I ever received from my mother. Of course being 8 years old and hearing it did not mean as much as it does now at 24. I have learned the hard way. I think this is something that everyone can really use though. On one hand, I cannot tell you how many times I have held my tongue in certain instances just because I was given this advice. On the other hand, I cannot tell you how many times I wish I did think before I spoke. I would have sounded so much smarter. Sometimes when you just say what is on the top of your mind you can hurt someone's feelings without even trying. I have made many mistakes in the past, but nothing haunts me more than my own word. The words that you speak are the only thing in this life that can really define you. Of course you have to back it up with your carecter. The Bible says that out of the abundance if the heart the mouth speaketh….Sometimes we sound so much more intelligent by saying nothing at all. If I have said anything that is offensive to anyone….No harm was meant. I probably did not think before I spoke….Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same. I think that in life we tend to try to take the “easy” way or what we think to be the easy way and it does not work.

My principal in high school used to always tell me that I would keep myself out of so much trouble if I would SHUT UP. There are many times looking back that I wish I would have heeded his advice more. Any of you that know me know that I tend to say anything that pops into my head. I have had to work on that especially now in the ministry. It is a valuable lesson that I wish I would've learned sooner.
